A Milwaukee company has started on its development of a drystack marina with room for 240 boats in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The F3 Marina Fort Lauderdale is under development on the 1.3-acre site at 1335 S.E. 16th St., formerly the home of SunDance Marine. The developer is Milwaukee-based Founders 3 Real Estate, and the general contractor is Marker Construction Group. Located one nautical mile from Port Everglades, the facility could accommodate boats up to 46 feet long and 17 feet high. The drystack building will use a computerized crane system to help move boats from the 21 wet slips to the 240 dry slips. They could lift up to 30,000 pounds. “We were already operating a successful, efficient drystack [The Port Marina] three blocks to the east, so we had a feel for the location and we’re very excited about it,” F3 Marina vice president Alain Giudice said. “We knew it would fill a market gap for local boat owners and introduce a beautiful building to the community and industry.” The F3 Marina should be completed in late 2020. It will be built to withstand winds of up to 140 mph. Marine industry experts say there’s a shortage of boat slips in South Florida as more people buy larger boats, and there’s limited space along the water. “We’re offering a Ritz-Carlton service for boaters with a concierge that sets them up for everything they need,” F3 Marina CEO David Behnke said. “It’s all about taking care of somebody so they feel good.” F3 Marina is a division of Milwaukee real estate firm Founders 3, that runs marinas in multiple states.
